Bio
Kim has studied and taught many dance forms for more than 25 years. Her early training began here in Kitchener at The Ewald Academy of Dancing, a studio which was in operation for more than 60 years. Kim’s great aunt Elsie first opened the school during the depression ( classes were 25 cents each) and Kim would later take over the directorship when her aunt retired in 1991. After high school Kim continued her studies in Toronto. She completed Ryerson’s three year diploma dance program and continued her dance exam accreditation in Ballet , Tap, Jazz , Modern and National. She holds her Advanced certificates in R.A.D. Ballet, I.S.T.D. Modern and National, C.D.T.A. Tap as well as Intermediate C.D.T.A Jazz and Elementary Cecchetti Ballet. Kim also has her teaching certificates from the R.A.D and C.D.T.A. Kim has a Bachelor of Arts (English) from the University of Waterloo.
Kim has danced with The Esmeralda Enrique Spanish Dance Company, The Paula Moreno Student company, Folk Ballet , Tsiganes and The Ukrainian Festival Dance Company. Kim has studied under Esmeralda Enrique, Paula Moreno, Maximillano, Carmen Romero, Elena , Veronica (Mazer) Maquire and Claudia Carolina. She has performed at Expo 86 in Vancouver and was a regular Spanish performer for three years at Wonderland and Ontario Place.
Today Kim teaches dance at the University of Waterloo (Carousel) and Spanish dance in Kitchener Stratford and London. Her Spanish dance troupe, Sol y Sombra, performs for weddings , seminars and festivals. For the past seven years she has been a performer and choreographer with the fusion troupe Tsiganes. Dance studies and performing opportunities have taken her to New York City, Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver ,Myrtle Beach , Spain, France, England, Morocco, Russia and Greece.
